Bluebell Wood
2009 Guild Piece.
Designed by Richard Golding & Karinna Sellars

BLUEBELL WOOD GUILD PIECE 2009 - 2010

As part of our 30th Anniversary celebrations, we recently created our second exclusive Okra Glass Collector's Guild Piece of 2009 - Bluebell Wood.

Designed by Richard and Karinna, this enchanting paperweight is inspired by the sea of bluebells that blossomed earlier this year, in a wood not far from the studio.

Lampworking techniques were used to capture the delicacy of a bluebell, which nestles in front of a sweeping woodland backdrop. The paperweight has a highly polished, hand-finished facet, which reveals the bluebell within.

Priced at £320.00 this stunning piece stands approximately 15cm tall is now available to order direct from the studio.

For more information on the Guild, visit our Collectors Guild page.

TUTTI FRUTTI

Over the past few months Karinna has been working hard to create an exciting new range - Tutti Frutti - which was revealed at our recent Collector's Guild Open Day and was huge success!

Using rich background colours as her canvas, Karinna has perfected a technique of applying complimentary chips of colour freely to achieve bold, graphic patterns, which are then brought to life with hand cut surface decoration.

Tutti Frutti's luscious colours combined with Okra's hallmark iridescence are an eye-catching addition to our ever brightening palette!

Please see our Collections pages for more details.

NEW CREATIONS

There are now a number of new pieces to tempt you throughout our collections pages, including our new range of hand made jewellery - Sebella Pendants.

Bold and distinctive, truly unique and beautifully created, these eye-catching designs blend Okra's exciting palette of rich tones and iridescence to create stunning pieces of wearable art glass.

Available in a range of designs and colours to suit your individual style, Sebella pendants are approx 55mm in diameter and are threaded onto a complimentary faux suede thong, which can be tied to a desired length.

Please browse our Collections pages, where you will find the perfect treat for yourself or gift for a loved one.

NEW PARTNERS

2008 proved to be a very busy year at Okra Glass Studios, with some new and very exciting changes, namely the joining of new partners Karinna Sellars and Dean Hopkins.

During 2007, Nicola Osborne, one of the founding partners, decided to leave the business to follow her dreams in a new career and for a greater part of 2007, Richard was working single-handedly in the studio. Not only was this lonely, it was also very difficult. Glassmaking has always been a team activity and faced with the immense amount of behind the scenes work involved in running the business, as well as making the glass, Richard was faced with a hard decision of what the future held for Okra.

Karinna and Dean, close friends and fellow glass makers, had been lending a hand in the studio whenever possible, but at the time were running their own glass business. After much sole searching and with Nicola's blessing, Richard invited Dean and Karinna to join him as partners, ensuring a strong and successful future for Okra Glass.
